Lorde Praises Charli XCX’s New Album: “It’s an Honour to be Moved”

Lorde has given high praise to Charli XCX’s latest album, ‘Brat.’ amid speculation that one of the tracks might be about her. Taking to Instagram Stories, Lorde shared her admiration for both the album and Charli as an artist. “The only album I’ve ever pre-saved is out today. Charli just cooked this one different,” she wrote, showcasing the ‘Brat’ cover art. “So much grit, grace & skin in the game.”

Lorde continued, “I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honour to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this b*tch. Brava and welcome Brat.”

Fans have been buzzing with rumours that the track ‘Girl, So Confusing’ reflects Charli’s complex feelings about Lorde. The song’s first verse goes, “Yeah, I don’t know if you like me/ Sometimes I think you might hate me/ Sometimes I think I might hate you/ Maybe you just wanna be me.”

Later, Charli sings, “People say we’re alike/ They say we’ve got the same hair.” She elaborated, “You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: ‘She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick’,” Charli explained. “You create these parallels and think, ‘Well, that could have been me’. But it couldn’t have because we’re completely different people.”

Charli also clarified that she wasn’t making music that sounded anything like ‘Royals.’ “I think you just read what you want into it because you’re feeling insecure about your work.” However, Charli mentioned that she and Lorde are now on good terms: “You get over it and then you try to figure out all the things that are unique about you and you pursue that, and then probably in five months you have a breakdown about something else.”

Interestingly, Charli was once mistaken for the ‘Royals’ singer in an interview, which has since become a meme among fans. She even jokingly claimed she ghost-wrote the song.

In a 2022 interview with NME, Charli revealed that they almost dressed up as each other for Halloween. “I did have a really, really good idea,” she said. “I thought I could be Lorde for Halloween, and maybe cover ‘Royals’.”

She added, “I didn’t want it to seem like I was trolling, so I actually texted Lorde. And I was like, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about being you for Halloween, it’s all a good vibe, how do you feel about it?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, great. I’ll just be you. Then we both realised we’re as lazy as each other when it comes to putting effort into Halloween. We’ll just park the idea for a year when we can be bothered, but the thought was there. It’s definitely a break the internet moment.”
