‘LOTR’ Fans Urge For ‘The Silmarillion’ Adaptation

Fans of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series are urging J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate to consider adapting his 1977 story collection, ‘The Silmarillion.’ Authored by the mastermind behind the ‘Lord of the Rings’ universe, Tolkien, and published posthumously by his son, ‘The Silmarillion’ comprises five distinct parts. Within its pages lie tales of epic wars, mystical powers, and intricate mythology, all woven within the rich tapestry of Middle-earth, the beloved setting of Tolkien’s literary works.

With several of Tolkien’s writings already transformed into cinematic series and the recent revelation of a new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie slated for release in 2026, enthusiasts are taking to social media platforms to advocate for an adaptation of ‘The Silmarillion’.

One user, reacting to news of the upcoming film, humorously lamented the apparent dismissal of fans’ requests for a Silmarillion adaptation with the quip, “‘Can we please have a Silmarillion movie?’ ‘Best we can do is Aragorn beating up Gollum for 3 hours.’”

Another enthusiast proposed the idea of an animated anthology series based on ‘The Silmarillion’, urging others to rally behind this concept. However, some expressed disappointment with the direction of the new movie, titled ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, questioning its focus on a specific character rather than exploring the vast lore of ‘The Silmarillion’.

Amidst fans’ eagerness for a Silmarillion adaptation, there’s a sense of puzzlement regarding the difficulty in securing the rights to the book. Despite concerns raised by fans, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is said to delve into previously untold storylines and remains in the early stages of development, with involvement from Peter Jackson, the director, writer, and producer behind the original film franchise.
