Luke James Declines Offer to Replace Jonathan Majors as Kang in The MCU

Marvel Studios is dealing with some big changes following the forced exit of Jonathan Majors. Majors, who was charged with assault and abuse, played a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Kang the Conqueror, with impactful performances in ‘Loki’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’

Despite his departure, Marvel is determined to keep Kang’s character in the MCU, given his crucial role in the Multiverse Saga. They’re now on the lookout for a new actor to take over the role. Fans have suggested Luke James, especially after his appearance in ‘Them: The Scare.’

However, James has turned down the offer. In an exclusive chat with Russ Milheim from The Direct, Luke made it clear he isn’t interested in playing Kang but would love to work with Marvel on other projects. “Marvel as a whole? Yes. Kang the Conqueror? No. But I won’t take the meeting. There are so many brilliant characters. There are so many characters I would love to take a crack at,” James said.

Among the roles James is interested in is Thrasher, a character he’s followed since his childhood days reading Spider-Man comics. He also expressed a keen interest in the ongoing Blade project, despite another actor (Wesley Snipes) having already portrayed the character. Beyond Marvel, James is intrigued by the DC universe, particularly the role of Captain Atom, citing the character’s uniqueness and power.

“[Captain] Atom would be really cool in the DCU. I think Atom is such a unique character. They always kind of hint at him, show him in the cartoons and animation versions of all the movies that they’ve come up with DCU. But Atom is really powerful,” James remarked.

Marvel Studios seems to be taking their time with the recast. Recent information suggests that ‘Avengers 5’ might adopt a minimalistic approach to Kang, potentially deviating from the earlier reports about ‘The Kang Dynasty.’
