‘Mad Max’ Creator George Miller Teases Franchise’s Future

Mad Max fans can rejoice as the long-awaited prequel to 2015’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is set to premiere in theatres later this month. Director George Miller, who has steered the franchise since its inception in 1979, is offering a glimpse into what lies ahead. Miller hinted at the enduring impact of the meticulous preparation that went into creating Fury Road, suggesting that it sets the stage for the franchise’s future endeavours.

While ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ delves into the backstory of its titular character before her encounter with Tom Hardy’s Mad Max, Miller suggested that the film also holds significance for the overall narrative of the Mad Max universe. He hinted at further exploring the character arc of the anti-hero protagonist based on scripts developed during the making of Fury Road.

Despite the anticipation surrounding Furiosa, Miller isn’t slowing down. The upcoming film features Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, with Hardy making a nuanced appearance as Max. However, Miller has already prepared scripts for future ‘Mad Max’ projects. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller revealed that the writers had penned a backstory for Max during the production of ‘Fury Road.’

While ‘Furiosa’ serves as a prequel, it seamlessly connects with the events of Fury Road, with Taylor-Joy’s character intersecting with Max towards the end. This inclusion of Max’s iconic Interceptor serves as a tantalizing hint for future projects. Miller expressed his desire to explore Max’s untold story if given the opportunity, building upon the groundwork laid out in ‘Fury Road.’

Anya Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of Furiosa marks a departure from Charlize Theron’s iconic interpretation, portraying a younger version of the character. However, Taylor-Joy’s experience filming Furiosa wasn’t without its challenges. The actress revealed feeling a profound sense of isolation during production, grappling with the demands of her first major action role and the desolate setting of the film.

‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to hit theatres on 24th May.
