Maisie Williams, the 26-year-old ‘Game of Thrones’ star, made a bold statement at the premiere of her new series, ‘The New Look.’ Embracing the show’s inspiration from French fashion designer Christian Dior, Williams donned the iconic ‘New Look’ silhouette, featuring a cinched waist, small curved shoulders, and a voluminous skirt.
Her striking black leather dress showcased an exaggerated shawl effect draping across her shoulders and wrapping around her waist. The midi-length A-line skirt added to the dramatic flair. Williams completed her monochromatic look with black tights, sheer pleated gloves, velvet pointed-toe heels and a leather beret. The ensemble was accessorized with a single pair of dangle diamond earrings.
The premiere wasn’t short of showstopping fashion, as Williams’ co-stars Juliette Binoche and Todd A. Kessler also made entrances in statement headpieces. Kessler sported a small black bowler hat, while Binoche wore a wide-brim cartwheel hat and long black leather gloves, echoing the essence of the ‘New Look.’
The ensemble cast, including Ben Mendelsohn, John Malkovich, and Claes Bang, were photographed together. The AppleTV+ series explores the lives of fashion legends Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain, and Cristóbal Balenciaga as they revolutionize fashion during World War II. Williams plays the role of Christian Dior’s younger sister, Catherine, while Malkovich portrays Lucien Lelong.
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.K., Williams disclosed that she underwent a dramatic transformation for her role, shaving her head and losing approximately 25 pounds. The weight loss was closely monitored by a medical team, impacting her sleep cycles and leading to nightmares that resonated with her character, Catherine, a WWII French resistance fighter.
‘The New Look’ is set to premiere on AppleTV+ on Wednesday, 14th February.
