Margot Robbie Breaks Silence on 'Barbie' Oscar Snubs: "No Way to Feel Sad"

Margot Robbie is finally breaking her silence following the buzz surrounding the 'Barbie' Oscar nominations. The blockbuster flick has scored a whopping eight nods for the upcoming Academy Awards. However, the surprise comes in the form of Robbie not making the cut for the 'Best Actress category' and Greta Gerwig getting snubbed for 'Best Director.'

On a brighter note, Robbie still gets a nod as a producer in the 'Best Picture' category, while Gerwig secures a nomination for 'Best Adapted Screenplay.'

Addressing the raised eyebrows and concerns, Robbie shared her thoughts during a panel at a special Screen Actors Guild screening in Los Angeles. She commented, "There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed." She went on to express her excitement about the film's eight Academy Award nominations, describing it as "so wild."

Despite the omissions, Robbie extended support for Gerwig, emphasizing the uniqueness of her directorial achievement. "Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films," she added.

Robbie highlighted the magnitude of the film, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office, stating that it transcends them and the industry. 'Barbie,' according to her, has exceeded their wildest dreams, marking the most significant reward to come out of the entire experience.

Both Robbie and Gerwig found solace in the public support they received from fellow 'Barbie' nominees Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera after the Oscar nominations were announced. Ferrera, recognizing the historical impact of Gerwig and Robbie, stated, "The cultural and industry impact they’ve achieved will be felt for generations, and I’m so thankful to them for asking me to be a part of it."

Gosling, who plays Ken to Robbie's Barbie, emphasized that there is no 'Barbie' movie without the duo, crediting them for the film's global celebration and history-making success.
