The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get even greener. Mark Ruffalo is reportedly set to return as Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', joining Tom Holland in the next chapter of Sony and Marvel’s blockbuster franchise. This is Ruffalo’s first major Hulk appearance since his cameo in 'Shang-Chi', and 14 years after he first played the role in 'The Avengers'.
While Ruffalo’s involvement had been rumoured for months, his return has now solidified as the film’s script took shape and production ramped up in England earlier this month.
Michael Mando will reprise his role as Mac Gargan, better known as the villain Scorpion. Mando originally portrayed the character in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' (2017), and fans have long speculated about his return as the sinister side of Gargan remained largely unexplored—until now.

Following a successful formula seen in previous Holland-led Spider-Man films, 'Brand New Day' continues the trend of teaming the young hero with more seasoned Marvel veterans. Past entries paired Peter Parker with iconic figures like Iron Man, Nick Fury, and Doctor Strange. This upcoming film seems to lean even further into the classic Marvel Team-Up vibe from the comic book series of the 1970s and ’80s, where Spider-Man often partnered with different heroes across various adventures.
Stakes Are Higher in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'
This time, however, the stakes appear higher than ever. Jon Bernthal is also set to return as the Punisher, marking the vigilante’s first appearance in a Marvel film and his first cinematic outing since 'Punisher: War Zone' in 2008. With Spider-Man, Hulk, and Punisher sharing the screen, fans can expect intense showdowns and reluctant alliances as the trio likely clash before joining forces to confront a greater threat.

Plot details of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' remain tightly under wraps, but Marvel’s storytelling traditions suggest these powerful characters will have their differences—and a few battles—before uniting against a common enemy.
The film is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for helming 'Shang-Chi', while Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers return to script the story, continuing their long-running work on the Spider-Man series. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is officially slated for release on 31st July, 2026.
Ruffalo has become a mainstay in the MCU, with major roles in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', 'Thor: Ragnarok', 'Avengers: Infinity War', and 'Endgame'. He most recently appeared in Disney+’s 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law', further cementing his role as the franchise’s definitive Hulk.

Meanwhile, Mando gained widespread acclaim for his performance as Nacho Varga in 'Better Call Saul' and has also appeared in fan-favourite series like 'Orphan Black'. His return as Scorpion adds an exciting layer to the expanding Spider-Man rogues' gallery.
With a powerhouse cast and fresh creative direction, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Marvel crossovers yet.
