After more than a decade of waiting, Ed Sheeran and Martin Garrix have finally released their long-awaited collaboration 'Repeat It.' The track, which fans had been requesting for years, officially dropped on 15th May, ending one of pop and EDM's longest-running unreleased song stories. The emotional dance-pop tune, which was first released in 2014, has finally gone full circle for both the artists and their devoted followers.

A Collaboration That Started 12 Years Ago Finally Becomes Reality

The backstory of 'Repeat It' all began in 2014, following a night out in Amsterdam, when Ed Sheeran and Martin Garrix first became friends. Soon after, the duo headed into a studio in Nashville and began working on a track together. At the time, Ed Sheeran was starting his global ascent as one of pop music's top singer-songwriters, while Garrix was rapidly becoming as one of EDM's biggest breakout talents following the enormous success of 'Animals.'

Their unexpected collaboration immediately created excitement among fans, especially because it blended Ed's emotional songwriting style with Garrix's energetic electronic production.

Garrix regularly performed early versions of the song during live festival sets, including at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2015, even though it was never officially released back then. Fans online began referring to the track as "Rewind Repeat It" or simply "Repeat It," and over the years, bootleg recordings and snippets spread widely across YouTube and EDM fan communities. Audience kept asking both artists when the unreleased song would be released, and it eventually became one of the biggest "lost collaborations" in electronic music.

According to reports, delays were caused by overthinking the project, label-related complications and uncertainty about whether the original version still fit the current music landscape.

'Repeat It' Finally Arrives In 2026

The official release of 'Repeat It' was announced earlier this month as part of Martin Garrix's 30th birthday celebrations on 14th May. On 15th May, the next day, Garrix's label STMPD RCRDS officially released the song globally. The final version gives the song both nostalgic and contemporary vitality by fusing Ed Sheeran's trademark voice and acoustic guitar melodies with upbeat dance-pop production and orchestral parts.

Fans immediately celebrated the release across social media, with many calling it a "dream collaboration" more than a decade in the making. Both artists posted heartfelt and nostalgic content about their friendship and the song's progress prior to its release.

Martin Garrix wrote, "To be announcing and releasing this single around my 30th birthday feels incredibly special," while also admitting that he once believed the song would never officially come out. Ed Sheeran also opened up about the project, saying fans had spent years asking him about the unreleased track in the comments section of nearly every post. He described the release as a gift for listeners who had waited patiently for over a decade. The official music video is likewise emotionally charged, with scenes and recollections from both artists' lives over the last 12 years.

Fans Celebrate One of EDM's Most Anticipated Releases

The release of 'Repeat It' has already sparked huge reactions online, especially among longtime EDM and pop fans who remember hearing early festival versions years ago. After waiting more than ten years for the song's official release, many listeners on Reddit and other media called the release "surreal," with some playfully wondering, "What year is it?" Others praised the updated production, while some longtime fans compared it to the original live edits Garrix played during the mid-2010s EDM era. Additionally, the song comes out during a significant year for both musicians. While Ed Sheeran continues his great international music career with new projects and appearances, Martin Garrix is getting ready to release his debut album later in 2026.

For fans, 'Repeat It' is more than simply another joint effort; it's the conclusion of a 12-year musical mystery that finally got the release it deserved.
