The galaxy just got an unexpected new recruit. According to the latest trailer for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' renowned director Martin Scorsese will be featured in the future Star Wars movie as a voice actor rather than behind the camera. The unexpected appearance has quickly emerged as one of the trailer's most talked-about scenes, bringing new excitement to the eagerly awaited big-screen sequel to the Disney+ sensation 'The Mandalorian.'

The Franchise That Changed Star Wars Returns Bigger Than Ever

One of Star Wars' most popular series since its 2019 Disney+ premiere, 'The Mandalorian' blends classic cosmic adventure with fresh characters like Din Djarin and the cute Grogu. In addition to bringing the franchise back to life, the series aided in the release of spin-offs like 'Ahsoka' and 'The Book of Boba Fett,' which extended the storyline and fan interaction throughout the galaxy far, far away. 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' which is being directed by director Jon Favreau, will be Lucasfilm's first Star Wars adventure to be released in theaters in years.

The upcoming film is set to pick up after the events of the Disney+ seasons, as the evil Empire has fallen but remnants of its warlords still threaten peace. The New Republic enlists legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive companion Grogu to track down these enemies, setting off epic new adventures that give the plot a more expansive cinematic scope.

Fans got their first glimpse of the film's stakes in the trailer, which was released on 17th February, 2026. It included new allies, old enemies, and brutal battle scenes that promised a spectacle worthy of the Star Wars history. Alongside Pascal and Grogu, the cast includes Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial warlord.

Scorsese in a Galaxy Far, Far Away—Trailer Highlights

A vocal appearance by Martin Scorsese, who is renowned for directing masterpieces like 'Taxi Driver' and 'Goodfellas,' is one of the trailer's major surprises instead of a lightsaber duel. In the new footage, Scorsese voices a quirky four-armed Ardennian shopkeeper, seen briefly when Din Djarin approaches him for information about the Hutts. Fans were excited and intrigued by the sequence, which gives the trailer a humorous touch, and they soon recognized his unique voice.

The brief appearance of Scorsese is noteworthy because it highlights The Mandalorian and Grogu's blend of dramatic narrative and lighthearted character interactions, and he is formally joining a treasured universe that he has never been a part of before.

Originally more associated with gritty dramas than blockbuster sci-fi, Scorsese's participation as a voice actor has been confirmed by Lucasfilm and celebrated across fan communities—although some pointed out that marketing around the moment could have been better executed.

Beyond the Scorsese cameo, the trailer teases a deeper plot filled with familiar threats, such as Hutt crime families and scattered Imperial forces, while also showcasing returning elements like Din's ship—a revamped Razor Crest—and appearances by characters from Star Wars Rebels. Alongside Din, Grogu also has moments that imply he's developing, becoming proficient in both fighting and Force powers, suggesting an emotional and action-packed journey.
