Marvel Will Release Fewer Movies, Says Disney CEO

In a recent discussion with Wall Street analysts, Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled plans for a shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future trajectory. According to Iger, Disney intends to limit the influx of new Marvel content, aiming to release a maximum of three films and two television series per year. This strategic move, he explained, prioritises quality over quantity within the realm of Marvel productions.

“We’re gradually reducing the volume, possibly to around two TV series annually instead of the previous four, and scaling back our film output from potentially four to two, or a maximum of three,” Iger disclosed. “We’re diligently crafting our path forward.”

Looking ahead, Iger hinted at exciting prospects for the MCU, teasing “a couple of good films in ’25” and the anticipation of more Avengers content. “Overall, I’m optimistic about our slate,” he affirmed, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing Disney’s creative offerings. “I have full confidence in our team, and the intellectual properties we’re exploring, including our sequels, are unparalleled.”

Scheduled for release in 2025 are four MCU films: ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ ‘Thunderbolts,’ ‘The Fantastic Four’ and ‘Blade,’ with an additional four slated for 2026, including the fifth Avengers installment.

This decision to scale down production follows several notable underperformances at the box office for the studio, such as ‘The Marvels,’ which marked the MCU’s lowest opening since 2008’s ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.’

The sole new MCU film set for 2024 is ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ slated for release on 26th July, recently unveiling its action-packed trailer.
