Matt Czuchry & Jared Padalecki Reunite for Cozy Fall‑Themed Panera Campaign

Matt Czuchry and Jared Padalecki reunite in Panera's fall campaign, linking soups to their 'Gilmore Girls' personas—Dean, Logan, Jess—and reviving Black Bean Soup after seven years. As the show turns 25, the campaign feeds both nostalgia and appetite.

Matt Czuchry and Jared Padalecki, two of the most adored 'Gilmore Girls' actors, are returning for Panera Bread's new "Fall for Your Favorites" campaign this autumn, appealing to nostalgia—and comfort food. The ad campaign evokes the small-town coziness and warm customs that 'Gilmore Girls' fans cherish by connecting seasonal soups to the unique characteristics of Rory Gilmore's memorable suitors. The timing couldn't be better as the show's 25th anniversary draws near: viewers may savour a little TV nostalgia while they taste the soups.

Soups with Personality: Dean, Logan, Jess on the Menu

One of Rory's previous romantic partners humorously personifies each soup in the Panera ad. As the advertisement implies, Fireside Chili—"the trusted one," cozy and recognizable, "tastes like home"—is personified by Jared Padalecki, who portrayed Rory's first lover Dean Forester.

As Logan Huntzberger, Czuchry is associated with Autumn Squash Soup, which is the more upscale choice in terms of flavor and texture. Though Milo Ventimiglia doesn't physically appear in the advertisement, the third soup, Black Bean Soup, is positioned as the brooding favourite, echoing Jess Mariano.

The campaign presents their banter as romantic sparring, with Czuchry hinting at the allure of something more layered and richer, while Padalecki jokes about being trustworthy but condemned as "not fancy." Only later is it made clear that they are, in fact, discussing soups, giving fans a nod to the traditional triangle cliché. After a seven-year break, Panera is bringing back Black Bean Soup, which will be the centerpiece of the autumn menu relaunch.

Nostalgia, 25th Anniversary & Why 'Gilmore Girls' Endures

As 'Gilmore Girls' approaches its 25th anniversary in October (the show debuted on 5th October, 2000), Czuchry considers how viewers continue to find the program to be a "warm cozy blanket." He highlights the show's ability to resonate across generations, as evidenced by fans obtaining related tattoos and naming their kids after characters.

The reason the show lasted was because it focused on Lorelai and Rory's mother-daughter relationship first, but it also included pop culture tidbits, quirky side characters, the small-town charm of Stars Hollow, and romantic tension that generated fan debate (Team Dean, Team Logan, Team Jess).

On set, Padalecki and Czuchry appeared to revert to that relationship with ease; Czuchry remarked that it was "really easy and comfortable" to work with.

However, the timing is deliberate: Panera's fall menu offers more than just soups; to complete a seasonal experience, there are dishes like Harvest Medley Chicken Salad and Crème Brûlée Latte. Panera sees the promotion as a brilliant approach to combine pop cultural memory with comfort food, allowing fans to choose their favorite cozy bowl while revisiting Rory's love environment.
