‘Megalopolis’ Trailer: See Adam Driver in First Teaser

Adam Driver takes on the role of an architect wielding control over time in the debut trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s highly anticipated new film, ‘Megalopolis.’

In the two-minute teaser, we witness Driver’s character, Cesar Catilina, standing precariously on the rooftop of a towering skyscraper. As he edges closer to the brink, contemplating a leap, he utters, “Time stop.” Suddenly, the hustle and bustle of the streets below freezes in time, until Catilina decides to release them once more.

Joining Driver in the cast are Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Laurence Fishburne, and Dustin Hoffman.

‘Megalopolis’ has been a labour of love for the iconic director behind ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’ since the early 1980s. However, it has faced financial hurdles throughout its development. Despite major studios expressing reluctance to invest in such an ambitious project, Coppola eventually took matters into his own hands, financing the film independently by liquidating personal assets, including portions of his wine business.

Estimates suggest the film’s budget has soared to around $120 million (£95 million). Now, it’s slated to make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival on 17th May.

According to the official synopsis, Megalopolis delves into the conflict within the City of New Rome, pitting Cesar Catilina, an ingenious artist with visions of a utopian future, against Mayor Franklyn Cicero (played by Giancarlo Esposito), who staunchly defends the existing status quo, rife with greed and partisan strife.

Caught in the middle is socialite Julia Cicero (portrayed by Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose affection for Catilina forces her to confront her beliefs about humanity’s rightful destiny.
