Melissa Barrera is “At Peace” With ‘Scream 7’ Firing

Melissa Barrera recently shared her experience being let go from 'Scream 7' due to her pro-Palestine social media posts last year. The Mexican-born actor, known for her role as Sam Carpenter in 'Scream' and its sequel 'Scream VI,' faced the consequences of expressing solidarity with Palestine in an Instagram post.

In her Instagram Stories, Barrera passionately wrote, "I too come from a colonized country. Palestine WILL be free. They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds."

She further added, "Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp and cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water. People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING."

During an interview while promoting her new film 'Your Monster,' Barrera discussed her unexpected departure from the 'Scream' franchise. When questioned about her feelings regarding the situation, she stated, "I’m not the first person that’s happened to, but it was shocking. I don’t even know what to say. I think everything that happened was very transparent, on both sides, and I know who I am, and I know that what I said always came from a place of love and a place of humanity and a place of human rights and a place of freedom for people, which shouldn’t be controversial."

She continued, expressing a sense of peace about the situation, emphasizing that her family and those who know her understand her true intentions. Barrera stressed her desire for an end to the violence on both sides, advocating for humanity and the well-being of everyone involved.

In the same interview, Barrera spoke about her co-star Jenna Ortega, who also left the project a week after Barrera's departure. Despite the timing, it was revealed that Ortega had planned to exit the 'Scream' franchise before Barrera's firing. Barrera spoke warmly of Ortega, describing her as a "good egg" and emphasizing their mutual support for each other.

'Scream 7''s director, Christopher Landon, had earlier confirmed his departure from the project in December. Despite initially being announced as the director in August, Landon eventually left the helm, marking an unexpected turn of events for the seventh installment in the 'Scream' franchise.
