Melissa Barrera has raised doubts about the reported box office success of 'Scream 7' during a recent interview with Variety. The actress said she does not believe the film earned as much money as officially reported and suggested the numbers may have been exaggerated.

According to Box Office Mojo, the latest instalment in the Ghostface franchise earned more than $207 million worldwide following its theatrical release in February. Variety noted that it independently verifies box office figures.

Barrera was removed from the movie in 2023 after reports claimed that Spyglass Media Group dismissed her over social media posts related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Before her exit, she had appeared in the previous two 'Scream' films alongside Jenna Ortega.

During the interview, Barrera also agreed with criticism directed at the film and admitted she was aware of negative reactions surrounding the sequel.

Melissa Barrera also commented on the cast members who stayed with the franchise, including Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding. She suggested they make their own decisions about remaining involved with the project and would have to live with those choices.

The actress also reflected on the difficult period after losing the role, admitting she briefly feared her acting career could be over. However, she said she remained hopeful that public opinion would eventually shift in her favour.

Since leaving the franchise, Melissa Barrera has expanded her career with projects including the Peacock thriller miniseries 'The Copenhagen Test' and upcoming films such as 'The Collaboration' and 'Black Tides.'
