Michelle Yeoh Receives The Coveted Presidential Medal Of Freedom!

Michelle Yeoh, the acclaimed actress known for her versatile roles, received an honour from President Joe Biden. Yeoh was bestowed with the esteemed Presidential Medal of Freedom by the President.

This prestigious accolade recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to both the United States and the wider world. On 3rd May, Michelle Yeoh stood tall as she was presented with the distinguished award by the President. Biden praised Yeoh for shattering stereotypes and overcoming barriers throughout her career. In a brief address, Biden lauded Yeoh for challenging “stereotypes which have enriched and enhanced American culture.”

He emphasised that her diverse range of roles in films has shown us the common threads that bind us together, regardless of gender, culture, or language. Biden pointed out that most of her roles, spanning from martial arts to science fiction to romantic comedies, resonate with audiences universally. He also noted how Yeoh brings different cultures to life through her performances, not only to entertain but also to inspire and uplift. Biden concluded by remarking, “And that’s what she keeps on doing.”

Yeoh made history in 2022 by winning the Oscar for ‘Best Actress’ for her role in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ making her the first Asian woman to achieve this feat. “For all the little boys and girls who are watching this tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This award is proof that big dreams do come true. So dream big,” said Yeoh in her acceptance speech.

Michelle Yeoh’s illustrious career spans over four decades, punctuated by memorable performances in blockbuster films. She began her journey in martial arts films such as ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’ and has graced the screen in numerous other movies, including ‘Tomorrow Never Dies,’ ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and ‘A Haunting in Venice’ by Kenneth Branagh. In 2023, she was honoured with the Kering Women in Motion Award at the Cannes Festival.

Next, Michelle Yeoh will be appearing alongside pop star Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the upcoming movie ‘Wicked.’
