Michelle Yeoh Stuns as Madame Morrible in New ‘Wicked’ Image

To celebrate Michelle Yeoh’s birthday, ‘Wicked’ released an image of the Oscar-winning actress in her upcoming role as Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University. Yeoh joins a star-studded cast including Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The film, set in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ universe, is adapted from the popular Broadway musical.

‘Wicked’s’ birthday message read, “Happy Birthday to our Madame Morrible, Michelle Yeoh!” accompanied by an image of Yeoh in character. Her portrayal of Madame Morrible shows her in a blue dress, unlike the musical’s green attire, and presents a more poised and stern demeanour. This version also features a different hairstyle from the musical’s rendition. Yeoh follows in the footsteps of actresses like Carole Shelley, Donna McKechnie, and Sophie-Louise Dann.

Scheduled for release this Thanksgiving alongside ‘Gladiator II’, ‘Wicked’ aims to replicate the success of the 2023 Barbenheimer phenomenon. Recent trailers hint at Yeoh’s portrayal of Madame Morrible, who mentors Elphaba Thropp in magic and later dubs her the “Wicked Witch” after she betrays the Wizard.

Michelle Yeoh, who began her acting career in the 1980s with films like ‘Police Story III: Super Cop’ alongside Jackie Chan, is known for her action roles and later dramatic performances. Her filmography includes ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’, and ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’. Upcoming projects include ‘Star Trek: Section 31’, ‘Blade Runner 2099’, and future ‘Avatar’ sequels.

Yeoh’s role in ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ earned her numerous accolades, including “Best Actress” at the 2023 Academy Awards, “Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” at the Golden Globes, and “Best Lead Performance” at the Independent Spirit Awards.
