'Música' Review: Rudy Mancuso And Camila Mendes Shine in Debut

Rudy Mancuso, the internet star known for his energetic Vine videos, has stepped behind the camera for his feature film debut, 'Música.' This stylish coming-of-age story draws inspiration from Mancuso's own life, particularly his experience with synesthesia, a condition where the senses are intertwined.

Mancuso not only directs and stars in Música, but also composed the music and co-wrote the screenplay. The film follows Rudy (played by Mancuso himself) as he navigates the uncertainties of life after college graduation. Facing an undefined future, Rudy grapples with familiar themes of self-discovery and finding his place in the world.

A key element is the dynamic between Rudy and his mother, played by Mancuso's real-life mom. Her desire for him to embrace his Brazilian heritage adds a layer of authenticity to the story.

The film introduces Isabella (played by Camila Mendes), a strong-willed character who challenges Rudy's perspective. Their connection deepens as they explore their backgrounds and the vibrant Ironbound neighbourhood they call home.

Their conversations reveal their personalities, shaped by their Brazilian roots and their shared desire to honour their heritage while forging their paths.
