Netflix Scraps Halle Berry’s Sci-Fi Movie ‘The Mothership’: What Went Wrong?

Netflix has decided not to release Halle Berry’s sci-fi movie, ‘The Mothership’. The filming of the project was completed after it was announced in February 2021, but there were delays in the post-production phase. The need for reshoots became an issue because the kids involved had aged since the initial filming.

The film, written and directed by Matt Charman (co-writer of ‘Bridge of Spies’), and executive-produced by Danny Stillman and Halle Berry, tells the story of Sara Morse, played by Berry. Sara’s husband mysteriously disappears from their rural farm, leading her and her kids on a quest for answers when they discover an extraterrestrial object under their home.

Despite this setback, Halle Berry continues her collaboration with Netflix, having signed a deal in November 2021 to both star in and produce new films. Her next project with the streaming giant is titled ‘The Union’ (formerly known as ‘Our Man from New Jersey’), where she co-stars with Mark Wahlberg. In ‘The Union’, Berry’s character recruits her high school ex-boyfriend, played by Wahlberg, for a high-stakes U.S. intelligence mission.

After making her directorial debut with ‘Bruised’, which quickly rose to No. 1 in the U.S. and topped the charts in 21 countries on Netflix, Halle Berry joined creative forces with the streaming giant. In ‘Bruised’, Berry not only directed but also produced and starred as Jackie Justice, a retired mixed martial arts fighter who returns to the ring when her son re-enters her life.

During the film’s premiere, Berry shared why she chose to take on this project. She emphasized the importance of creating a story about something she loves and deeply understands. The fight game, redemption, forgiveness, and the struggle to survive as a woman are themes she resonates with personally.

Despite the success of ‘Bruised’, there has been no immediate response from Halle Berry’s representative regarding the request for comment.
