Get ready for a whimsical ride as 'The Cat in the Hat' returns to the big screen in a vibrant new animated movie, set to release on 27th February, 2026. The freshly released trailer offers a colourful introduction to a reimagined version of Dr. Seuss' beloved character, voiced by Bill Hader.
In this animated reboot, the mischievous cat isn’t just dropping in for a day of chaotic fun — he’s on a mission. The movie dives deeper into the Cat’s backstory, revealing that bringing joy to children and helping them build confidence is his profession. According to co-writer and co-director Alessandro Carloni, there's even an entire organisation behind his antics.
Despite facing resistance — including a scene where sceptical kids hilariously pepper-spray him — the Cat remains determined to complete his mission. He’s not alone, either. This time, he's joined not just by Thing One and Thing Two, but by a whole lineup of Things, extending to Thing Thirteen.
Inspiration For 'The Cat in the Hat'
The filmmakers took inspiration from the original book but expanded it into a broader exploration. Carloni explained that the team treated the source material as a launching point, asking deeper questions about the Cat's true purpose. By the story's end, the children seem more self-assured, leading to a new interpretation of the Cat as a kind of whimsical child psychologist.

Bill Hader, known for his work on 'Saturday Night Live', actively pursued the role, drawn by his love of Dr. Seuss stories. He recalled reading them as a child and later sharing them with his own kids. Hader described the opportunity to voice such an iconic character — and to reunite with directors Carloni and Erica Rivinoja — as irresistible.
This marks the first time 'The Cat in the Hat' will appear in a full-length animated feature, and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is positioning the movie as a flagship for a bold new era of storytelling. Studio president Bill Damaschke emphasised the film’s original approach, calling it a bigger, more magical, and imaginative take on a character that generations have adored.

What's New in 'The Cat in the Hat'?
The animation style is also unique, blending three visual worlds: the grounded reality of the human characters, a whimsical realm belonging to the Cat, and a dreamlike space inspired by children's memories. Carloni highlighted how this multi-layered design gives viewers the sense of experiencing several stories within one.
The all-star voice cast also includes Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, among others.
While fans may remember the 2003 live-action adaptation starring Mike Myers, this new version offers a completely fresh perspective — one that’s full of heart, humour, and Seussian wonder. With bold visuals, a deeper storyline, and a stellar cast, 'The Cat in the Hat' is poised to enchant a whole new generation.
