New ‘Smurfs’ Movie Trailer Teases Fresh Music From Rihanna

Rihanna’s new track may be featured in the recently released teaser for the upcoming ‘Smurfs’ film.

The teaser comes after it was revealed last year that the pop sensation would be providing Smurfette’s voice in the much-awaited animated movie. Rihanna makes a screen appearance to introduce herself and her role before the start of the trailer. When the film opens in theatres this summer, she says she can’t wait for fans to see it.

Before switching to Rihanna’s rendition of Belinda Carlisle’s 1987 hit song ‘Heaven Is a Place on Earth’, the video showcases a distinctive mashup of the iconic ‘Smurfs’ theme music and her early single, ‘Don’t Stop the Music’. DJ Khaled also seems to be on the cover.

Continuing the trailer, Rihanna’s voiceover describes Smurf town as a place where every day seems like a party and where each Smurf has a distinct role, like Grouchy, Influencer, and Smurfette, whom she calls “the coolest Smurf.”

The plot appears to centre around a gang of Smurfs traversing various realms in pursuit of John Goodman’s character, Papa Smurf, who has gone missing. Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, James Corden, and Amy Sedaris are among the other performers who have contributed their voices to the project. On 18th July, the movie will be released in theatres.

In addition to providing the voice of Smurfette, Rihanna is a producer of the movie and has written many original songs for the soundtrack. As the movie gets closer to its premiere, more information about this new music should become available.

Rihanna’s last album, ‘Anti’, was released nine years ago, and this thrilling preview of new music comes just days after that. She has only put out two singles since then, the most recent of which being ‘Lift Me Up’, an homage to Chadwick Boseman that was featured on the soundtrack of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

Since Rihanna started teasing new music in 2018, fans have been anticipating a new album, which they have named ‘R9’. She did, however, request in 2020 that fans cease putting pressure on her to release an album during the pandemic. Although there has been no official confirmation, rumours circulated in 2023 that she had signed a contract with Live Nation and was organizing a world tour for 2024–2025.

By making references to new songs and a potential tour in December 2023, Rihanna stoked rumours once more. A$AP Rocky, however, stated that she was still working on the record barely two months later. Rihanna addressed the delay during a recent Fenty Beauty event, stating that “God had other plans” for her and that other responsibilities had caused her emphasis to change.

Her list of film credits, which already includes ‘Battleship’, ‘Home,’ and ‘Ocean’s 8’, continues to increase with her role in the ‘Smurfs’ movie. It will be up to fans to wait and see if this endeavour marks the eagerly anticipated release of new Rihanna music.
