New ‘Wonder Woman’ Film in Development at DC Studios

With just over a month to go before the release of James Gunn’s highly anticipated reboot ‘Superman’, DC Studios appears to already be laying the groundwork for another major chapter in its evolving cinematic universe. According to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed that a new ‘Wonder Woman’ film is currently in development.

While providing a brief update on the prequel series ‘Paradise Lost’—described as progressing slowly but steadily—Gunn shared that work had also begun on a ‘Wonder Woman’ script. He confirmed that the project is being written, though he offered no details on the writer or the direction the story will take.

Gal Gadot Not Returning as Wonder Woman 

What is known, however, is that Gal Gadot will not be returning as Diana Prince. Her final outing in the role was in 2020’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, part of the now-retired DCEU. Gunn had previously cited Wonder Woman, alongside Superman, Batman, and Supergirl, as key pillars of the new DC Universe during a presentation to investors in May.

With ‘Superman’ set to hit cinemas in July, Craig Gillespie’s ‘Supergirl’, starring Milly Alcock, arriving next summer, and HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ deep into production, Gunn’s ‘Gods and Monsters’ chapter of the DCU is clearly taking shape. Though details about the new ‘Wonder Woman’ film remain under wraps, the project signals that DC Studios is moving closer to assembling a fresh version of its iconic superhero team.
