Nicholas Galitzine Says There Was “Chemistry” Between Him And Anne Hathaway Instantly

Nicholas Galitzine reflects on the incredible chemistry they shared during their first chemistry read for ‘The Idea of You,’ which made its debut at the closing night of SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Recalling the transformative experience, Galitzine explains how refreshing it was to enter the room with Hathaway and feel such openness. Despite the usual nerves actors face in such situations, he left feeling proud of the work he’d put in, regardless of the outcome.

During the chemistry read, Galitzine was tasked with bringing a song and convincing Hathaway to dance with him. While this proved anxiety-inducing for someone not accustomed to dancing, he recognised the need to fully commit to the moment, especially when meeting someone for the first time.

Describing the encounter as open and fun, Galitzine believes it was then that they both realised there was a genuine connection and chemistry between them, a rare find in audition rooms.

The following day brought great news when Galitzine received a call confirming him for the role of Hayes in ‘The Idea of You.’ In this adaptation of Robinne Lee’s novel, Galitzine portrays 20-year-old Hayes, a member of the world-famous boy band August Moon, who unexpectedly finds love with divorcée Soléne, played by Hathaway, after a fateful encounter at Coachella.

To prepare for the role, Galitzine underwent what he refers to as “boy band boot camp,” where he learned the art of dance and honed his stage presence. With August Moon recording real music for the film, the experience felt like a mini concert, despite not performing in front of thousands.

Embodying the confidence of a pop star, Galitzine embraced the challenge and poured himself into the role, ensuring he captured the essence of Hayes authentically.
