Nicola Coughlan Slams Rumours Claiming Her Waist Was Photoshopped For ‘Bridgerton’

Since its debut, ‘Bridgerton’ has captivated audiences, gaining immense popularity with each new season. Thanks to its compelling storyline and stellar performances, the series has exceeded fan expectations, especially with the release of season three in two parts. Recently, Nicola Coughlan, the lead actress of the latest season, found herself at the centre of controversy over claims that her waist had been digitally altered to appear slimmer in the show.

Addressing these accusations, Coughlan set the record straight in an interview. According to a People article published on June 12, Coughlan spoke out about the claims that her body was photoshopped in Bridgerton. “I saw some trolls. They were like, ‘They Photoshopped your waist,’” she said. “I was like, ‘No, they did not.’”

She explained that wearing corsets for extended periods can naturally mould the body. “Sometimes they come in for a fitting for a fashion designer,” Coughlan shared, describing how she tells them to go “tight” when fitting her into a corset. She added, “My body now will go whew,” emphasising how her shape adapts to the garment.

In a Q&A session held in Dublin, as reported by Variety, Coughlan also discussed her experience filming nude scenes for Bridgerton’s third season. She highlighted the importance of representation, noting that women with bodies like hers and those with “perfect breasts” rarely see themselves on screen. Proudly calling herself a member of the “perfect breast community,” she stressed the need for more diverse body types to be shown in media.
