Nicole Kidman Says ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 is Moving “Fast and Furious”

Nicole Kidman has given fans a much-anticipated update on the third season of ‘Big Little Lies.’ In November, she confirmed that, to everyone’s surprise, a third season is indeed in the works. Originally meant to be a mini-series based on Liane Moriarty’s novel, the show’s massive success led to more episodes being created.

During a chat with Vanity Fair, Kidman and her co-star Reese Witherspoon briefly hinted at what’s to come. Witherspoon even joked that Kidman “has already said too much” about the future of the show.

Kidman confessed, “I got excited,” about accidentally revealing some details about Season 3. She added, “We need to shut up. There’s a whole thing about how you should never talk about something until you’ve done it because if you talk about doing it then it’s the dopamine hit of doing it and you feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study. We’re moving fast and furious. Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book. We’re in good shape.”

Previously, the possibility of a third season seemed grim. Zoë Kravitz had expressed doubt, especially following the tragic death of Jean-Marc Vallée, the director and executive producer of ‘Big Little Lies.’ Vallée passed away at 58 on December 25, 2021, due to “a fatal cardiac arrhythmia secondary to severe coronary atherosclerosis,” according to the final coroner’s report.

In an interview with GQ, Kravitz responded to a fan question about the show’s return, saying, “I don’t think it is. We talked about doing season three a lot and unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away last year which was heartbreaking. And I just can’t imagine going on without him. He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it’s done.”

However, there seems to be a change in the air. HBO’s chief content officer, Casey Bloys, had previously mentioned in 2019 that while there wasn’t an obvious direction for the show to take, he would be open to more if the team had a great idea. He said, “To me on the face of it, there’s no obvious place to go. But this is an extraordinary group of actors and producers, and if they said ‘We have the greatest take’, I’d listen to them. I’d be open.”
