Olivia Wilde and Margot Robbie to Adapt ‘Avengelyne’

Who would have thought this formidable trio would exist? Not us, of course! Are we, however, upset about Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and X-Men producer Simon Kinberg working together to adapt the comic book character ‘Avengelyne’ from ‘Deadpool’ for the big screen? Not at all!

Director Wilde, who has helmed movies like ‘Booksmart’ and ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ will direct the project. Variety reports that Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, will produce alongside partners Tom Ackerleg and Josie McNamara, and that Kinberg will also contribute as a producer. Liefeld, who also co-created Deadpool in 1995, is credited with creating Avengelyne, who is portrayed as an angel battling evil forces.

Previous attempts to turn Avengelyne into a film failed, despite plans to star Gina Carano in 2013 and reports that Paramount had purchased the rights in 2016. Avengelyne’s possible pairing with LuckyChap would result in the character’s on-screen introduction.

Expectations have been raised by LuckyChap’s recent success with ‘Barbie,’ a summer blockbuster worth $1 billion and nominated for eight Academy Awards. Currently in development for Universal Pictures is the production company’s adaptation of Wilde’s Christmas comedy Naughty.

Other noteworthy LuckyChap productions include the $15 million Sundance film ‘My Old Ass’, which was sold to Amazon MGM Studios, and the Oscar-winning films ‘I, Tonya’ and ‘Promising Young Woman’, in addition to ‘Saltburn’.

Whether Avengelyne will be a Margot Robbie vehicle or if another actress will be considered for the part is unknown. A “big A-list writer” is reportedly under consideration for the script adaptation, according to Deadline.
