‘One Piece’ Season 2 Adds New Cast Members
The live-action adaptation of ‘One Piece’ is coming back for a second season and it’s bringing some exciting new faces with it. The first season, which premiered on Netflix last August, was a hit with both audiences and critics alike.
Based on Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, which later became a popular anime series, ‘One Piece’ follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of vast oceans and exotic islands. Their ultimate goal? To find the greatest treasure and make Luffy the next Pirate King.

Shortly after the first season aired, Oda confirmed that the series would return for a second season. Now, new casting announcements have fans buzzing. David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Dune,’ ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Late Night With The Devil,’ will play ‘Loan Shark’ Galdino, also known as Mr. 3, a member of the criminal organisation Baroque Works.
Joining him are Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, and Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine. Announcing the renewal, Oda said: “I spent a long time working on it with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it.”
“Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news,” he added. “Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward! It’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient.”
This news wasn’t entirely unexpected, as the first season broke Netflix records, previously set by the debut seasons of ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Stranger Things’ season 4. While those shows were the top on the streaming platform in 83 countries upon release, ‘One Piece’ debuted at number one in 84 countries.
