‘One Piece’ Season 2 Delayed, May Release in 2025

Fans of the live-action ‘One Piece’ series have been eagerly awaiting news about the second season and recent updates have provided a glimpse into what’s coming. Based on the beloved manga by Eiichiro Oda, which also inspired a long-running anime series, the Netflix adaptation has captivated audiences with its spot-on casting and engaging storytelling.

The show’s first season, which premiered in August 2023, impressed viewers by bringing the vibrant world of ‘One Piece’ to life. Becky Clements, President of Tomorrow Studios, recently shared some insights into the upcoming season in an interview with Deadline. She spoke about the challenges of filming, especially during the hotter months of July and August, and how this has affected the production schedule. Most of the exterior scenes have been rescheduled for later in the year to avoid the summer heat, with plans to continue filming into December.

“This is a very VFX-heavy year, so it’s going to be a while. We are a long time out,” Clements said, hinting at the extensive post-production work required.

Given the significant use of visual effects, it’s expected that the second season could take until late 2025 to be ready for release. The first season, which covered the East Blue Saga, including iconic arcs like Romance Dawn and Arlong Park, took about twenty months to complete. If similar timelines are followed, fans might see the new season in the autumn of 2025.

However, other visual effects projects could cause further delays, potentially pushing the release into mid-2026.

The second season is set to pick up where the first left off, diving into the Loguetown arc, which is anticipated to be brief, followed by the more extensive Arabasta Saga. This saga includes arcs such as Reverse Mountain, Whisky Peak, Little Garden, Drum Island, and Arabasta, introducing new characters like Smoker and further developing fan favourites like Crocodile and Nico Robin.
