Patrick Mahomes on Playing Matchmaker for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift: ‘I Had Some Input’

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 28, has added “matchmaker” to his list of talents. During a recent appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Mahomes shared how he played a role in the romance between his teammate Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Mahomes recounted his involvement, saying, “I like to take some of the credit. I invited Travis to the first Taylor concert when the friendship bracelet idea came up. He was sitting in my suite, so I felt like I was the matchmaker.”

Encouraging Kelce to pursue Swift, Mahomes continued, “I had some input in there as well. I was like, ‘Dude, you should go for it. Just go for it.’ And you know Travis, man. He does it. He’s a great dude. I’m glad that it’s all worked out for the best.”

Travis Kelce, 34, had previously discussed his attempt to meet Swift during her concert in a July 2023 episode of his podcast, ‘New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.’ Kelce revealed, “I wanted to give Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet with my number on it,” but the two didn’t get to meet at that time due to her vocal commitments.

Swift later shared in her Time Person of the Year interview that their relationship “started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.” She added, “We started hanging out right after that. We had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple.”

Swift’s presence at Kelce’s games quickly garnered attention, and she became close friends with Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes. This increased the spotlight on the Chiefs and the NFL.

Pat McAfee praised Mahomes and his team for handling the attention well. “I heard Travis was in Lake Como this week. My algorithm also tells me everything Travis is doing with his life. And then my wife will tell me everything Taylor is doing,” McAfee said. “So I feel like I’m a part of their relationship. I couldn’t even imagine being on that side of it all. You guys are handling it great, you need to know that.”

Mahomes appreciated the compliment, responding, “I appreciate it. I appreciate it, man. We enjoy it. It’s been a fun run.”
