Perrie Edwards on Broken Friendship With Jesy Nelson

Little Mix burst onto the music scene back in 2011 after winning The X Factor. The girl band, comprising Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, quickly rose to fame with their catchy tunes and vibrant personalities. However, the departure of Jesy Nelson in 2020, citing mental health struggles, marked a significant shift for the group.

Jesy’s departure was driven by the immense stress and pressures she faced as part of the band, a struggle she candidly discussed in her BBC documentary, 'Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out.' She revealed that maintaining contact with her former bandmates wasn’t something she managed to do post-departure.

Recently, Perrie Edwards opened up about the strained relationship with Jesy in an interview with Cosmopolitan. She expressed her heartbreak over the estrangement, stating, “We don’t talk, and haven’t done for a long time. It’s really sad, it’s heartbreaking. But sometimes these things happen and people decide they want to part ways, and that’s absolutely fine. I would rather it went differently, but you can’t control how things go.”

Despite the current distance, Perrie reflected fondly on their past friendship. She emphasised that she cherished every moment they shared, describing it as the “happiest time” of her life. From laughing and crying together to supporting each other through thick and thin, their bond was significant.

Perrie reminisced about a particularly memorable night with Jesy, where they ended up on the show 'Sunday Brunch' after a night of revelry and a McDonald’s stop, still feeling the effects of their fun night out. These moments, she highlighted, were filled with joy and camaraderie.

Perrie also touched on her career journey, mentioning how she seeks advice from former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. Jesy, on her part, has been open about her reasons for leaving the band, citing severe trolling and its impact on her mental health. In an interview with The Sun, Jesy explained that while leaving was a tough decision, it was necessary for her well-being. She reiterated that she holds no regrets and treasures her time with Little Mix.

Jesy concluded her thoughts by saying, “I will always cherish the memories I had in Little Mix. So no, we haven’t talked since then. Never say never, but I honestly wish them the best on their solo journeys now, which is so exciting.”
