Ted Elliott, the writer behind the first four Pirates of the Caribbean films featuring Johnny Depp, teamed up with Craig Mazin to propose an idea for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’. According to Craig, they initially thought their pitch was too unconventional for Disney to accept, but to their surprise, the studio did. Despite Ted crafting an excellent script, a Hollywood strike occurred, causing delays in the project.

Although the Hollywood strike has ended, there has been no recent update on the status of the upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie. Previously, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the lack of clarity regarding a film involving Johnny Depp. However, Jerry clarified that the project with Margot Robbie had not been completely abandoned. The studio was prioritizing the script presented by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Various rumours have circulated about Johnny Depp’s potential departure from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. During the 2020 defamation trial against Amber Heard, Johnny stated that even if offered a substantial $301 million, he would not return for another film. His frustration with Disney stemmed from their decision to sever ties amid domestic abuse allegations, as they sought to distance themselves from controversy.
