Prince William Says He Hasn’t Seen ‘Barbie’ Yet

Prince William has shared his thoughts on the buzz surrounding the film ‘Barbenheimer’ at the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards. The event took place and while the Prince of Wales graced the occasion solo, his wife Kate Middleton is still recuperating from abdominal surgery.

During the awards ceremony held at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Prince William expressed his admiration for director Christopher Nolan, stating, “I’m a big fan of Christopher Nolan so I’ll be pleased if he wins … I loved ‘Oppenheimer.'” His remarks were reported by The Daily Telegraph. Nolan’s film ‘Oppenheimer’ ultimately took home the coveted Best Film award, and the director himself was honoured with the Best Director accolade.

As for the much-discussed movie ‘Barbie,’ the prince, who has held the position of president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) since 2010, admitted that he hasn’t seen it yet. “I haven’t watched Barbie yet, but I want to,” he reportedly confessed. Prince William also took the opportunity to commend the “good British films and good female directors” of the year, hinting at his intention to catch up on the cinematic offerings with his wife, Princess Kate.

Reflecting on this year’s BAFTA contenders, the prince remarked, “I’ve done [watched] the fewest I’ve ever done before,” indicating his busy schedule. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism about catching up and even planned to compile a watch list for himself and Princess Kate following the awards ceremony.

Throughout the event, Prince William sat beside renowned actress Cate Blanchett and post-ceremony discussions revolved around BAFTA-nominated films like the Holocaust drama ‘The Zone of Interest.’ The prince engaged in conversation with the film’s director, Jonathan Glazer and producer, James Wilson, stressing the importance of preserving historical narratives for future generations.

Expressing his intention to watch ‘The Zone of Interest,’ which delves into the story of a Nazi officer and his family living near Auschwitz concentration camp, Prince William revealed that he would choose an evening when he felt “uplifted” to view the impactful film.
