On 13th August, Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin released a new single Que Locura accompanied by a music video.

José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, popularly known as J Balvin, along with the release of his new song announced the release of his fifth album, José on 10th September.  José is a follow-up to the singer’s 2020 album Colores. The album which was a huge success peaked at No.2 on Billboard’s Top Latin Album Charts and also won the Latin Grammy for the best urban album.

Talking about his album Colores with Amazon Music J Balvin said, “Colours are a universal language, like music, like numbers.” He says, “Every day has a different colour. So you can listen to the album one day, you might be in a green mood, you might be feeling like yellow, or you know like blue, someday you may be in like a grey mood. So that’s how I see the album. It’s a rainbow; you know it’s like changing, constantly.” He went on to say, “It’s cool to go on beyond just the music you know it’s touching emotions. I think this is a beautiful moment for the Spanish language to shape you know breaking barriers, boundaries.”

Que Locura literally translates to ‘What madness’. The song is about a guy who is trying to get over a girl with who he just broke up with.

So the chorus goes ‘La disco esta llena y yo pensando dizque en ti | Qué locura, mami, qué locura | ¿Será que en este cuento, mami, yo te olvido al fin? | Qué locura, mami, qué locura’

This translates to, ‘The club is full and I’m supposedly thinking of you | What madness, mommy, what madness | Could it be that in this story, Mommy, I finally forget you? | What Madness, Mommy, what madness’

In his recent interview with Billboard, J Balvin spoke about how his Miller Lite campaign, titled “Es José Time,” embraces his namesake and who he really is behind his onstage persona.  “I’m really getting to know me because I’ve been so caught up on J Balvin that I started to forget about José,” he said. “That’s what I love about this campaign. It’s showing my human side, chilling with my friends, and being a normal guy.”

With nine nods, J Balvin is a finalist for the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards, including artist of the year, songwriter of the year, and hot Latin song of the year for “Ritmo (Bad Boys for Life)” with the Black Eyed Peas.
