Reese Witherspoon Reveals Real Name and Fans Are Surprised

Reese Witherspoon has left many of her fans stunned after revealing her actual birth name.

In an interview with Nicole Kidman for Vanity Fair, the star of ‘Walk The Line’ dropped this surprising tidbit while chatting about their ‘Big Little Lies’ co-star, Laura Dern. Witherspoon casually referred to Dern by her last name, prompting Kidman to quip, “I hate how you call her Dern; it sounds weird.”

Witherspoon explained, “I’m gonna tell you why. Because my name is Laura, and her name is Laura, and it’s confusing to me. My real name is Laura Jeanne.”

Kidman was momentarily taken aback by this revelation but quickly responded, “That’s right! So you call her Dern.”

Born Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, she adopted her mother’s maiden name, Reese, as her stage name when she began her acting career in the early ’90s. This detail about her name has come as a surprise to many fans, who took to social media to share their astonishment. One fan wrote, “So this is how I learn her real name is Laura Jeanne Reese??? The way she said ‘cuz my name is Laura’ is such a revelation to me, it’s giving Darth Vader’s ‘I am your father’.”

The 48-year-old actress has recently been seen in the 2023 romcom ‘Your Place Or Mine’ with Ashton Kutcher and in the third season of Apple TV+ series ‘The Morning Show,’ alongside Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell.

Besides her acting career, Witherspoon is also a prominent producer. She has worked on films such as ‘Where The Crawdads Sing,’ ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Wild,’ the latter earning her a ‘Best Actress’ Oscar nomination.
