Robert Downey Jr. Celebrates PEOPLE Magazine Cover Debut: ‘Took 50 Years, But I’ve Finally Arrived

Robert Downey Jr. is enjoying the limelight as PEOPLE Magazine’s newest cover star.
Recently awarded his first Oscar for his performance in ‘Oppenheimer,’ Downey poses smiling and holds his esteemed trophy on the cover of this week’s issue.
On 12th March, Downey shared the cover with his followers on Instagram Story, sharing his excitement with the words, “I’ve finally arrived… He joked, “It only took 50 years…,” about PEOPLE’s 50th anniversary this year. “I’m on the cover of @people magazine!!” he wrote.

Downey, who will star in HBO’s ‘The Sympathizer,’ teases that he has a few more tricks up his sleeve and says in the featured interview that he has no plans to slow down after winning the Academy Award.
“She found me, a snarling rescue pet, and loved me back to life,” Downey said in his Oscar acceptance speech, expressing gratitude to his wife and producing partner Susan for her part in his personal and professional development. I’m here for that reason.”

He also expressed gratitude to producer Emma Thomas, co-stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon, as well as ‘Oppenheimer’ director Christopher Nolan, saying that they were responsible for his life-changing experience on set. “I stand here before you a better man because of it,” he said.
Downey underscored the industry’s importance of their work, saying, “What we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important.”
