Robert Downey Jr. Dismisses Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Comments: ‘Relatable Yet Godlike’

Robert Downey Jr.’s views on ‘Thor’ diverge from Chris Hemsworth’s sentiments about his character in the Marvel cinematic universe. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth expressed frustration with his portrayal of ‘Thor’ in the Avengers films, feeling overshadowed by his co-stars’ more exciting storylines.

Despite landing the role of ‘Thor’ at just 25 years old and being the sole main cast member to continue with standalone movies, Hemsworth found himself questioning his character’s significance.

Hemsworth elaborated on his feelings, describing himself as feeling like a mere “security guard” for the team, reading others’ lines and feeling left out of the fun. He acknowledged the superficial aspects of his role—wig, muscles, costume—but felt lacking in substance compared to his co-stars.

Despite these doubts, Hemsworth remains committed to the role and is poised to continue with Marvel’s upcoming phase, especially after the reception of ‘Love and Thunder’, though it fell short of fan expectations.

In contrast, Robert Downey Jr. praised Hemsworth’s portrayal of ‘Thor’, recognizing the character’s complexity and uniqueness. Downey Jr. commended Hemsworth and director Kenneth Branagh for transcending the character’s limitations, making him both relatable and godlike. He highlighted Hemsworth’s multifaceted portrayal, encompassing wit, gravitas, restraint, fire, and gentleness.

Beyond their on-screen personas, the actors share a strong bond in real life, despite their characters’ divergent narratives within the Marvel universe.
