Robert Downey Jr. Opens Up About His Hollywood Journey Post-Oscar Win

Not long after winning his first Oscar, Robert Downey Jr. is opening up about his turbulent time in Hollywood.

In his ‘Best Supporting Actor’ acceptance speech, Downey acknowledged his struggle with drug addiction in the late 1990s and early 2000s while blending poignant moments with deadpan humour. He jokingly thanked his lawyer for years of support and thanked his wife for her part in his recovery.

Looking back on his journey from being an uninsured actor to winning an Oscar, Downey stressed the significance of moral development and healing. He told PEOPLE that he thought everyone could get better and that they should have compassion for others who are going through similar things.

Downey finds solace in his family life amidst the turmoil of Hollywood. He finds fulfilment in providing for his family and treasures his moments of domesticity.

For Downey, the recent Oscar victory is significant because it closed a chapter in his career and brought back memories of his late father. Even though his father might not have agreed with his films, Downey thinks that, despite his usual disinterest in accolades, he would have accepted the legitimacy of this recognition.
