Some films may initially flop at the box office but gain a devoted following over time. Matt Damon's 1998 film ‘Rounders’, which centres on underground poker, is a prime example. Despite its poor box office performance, the film has grown in popularity. Now, Damon has expressed interest in revisiting this project with a potential sequel.
In an appearance on Roku Channel’s ‘The Rich Eisen Show’, Damon discussed the possibility of a ‘Rounders’ follow-up. He mentioned that he and his co-stars, including Edward Norton, have long wanted to make a sequel, noting the significant changes in the poker world over the past 25 years that could be explored in a new film.

Damon also revealed that discussions about a sequel took place over a decade ago with screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman, who are now known for the Showtime series ‘Billions’. According to Damon, they had a great story idea that could be updated to fit the current landscape.
The reason a sequel hasn’t materialized yet is due to complex rights issues involving the original film. Damon explained that sorting out ownership and reaching a deal that benefits all parties involved especially the cast and crew, is a challenging process. However, he remains hopeful that a sequel could eventually become a reality.
