He explained that during writing and shooting he use to listen to the Blues constantly, drawing on that raw musical tradition to shape how the audience hears the film in their minds, not just what they see on screen. This strategy was quite deliberate on Coogler's part since he wanted 'Sinners' to be a finished, stand-alone work of art that could be listened to years later and feel both new and familiar at the same time, much like listening to a favorite blues song again.
