Ryan Reynolds Encounters Steve Carell’s Imaginary Friend in The ‘IF’ Trailer

Ryan Reynolds is set to explore the enchanting realm of imaginary friends in the upcoming film ‘IF’, written and directed by John Krasinski. The first trailer unveils a magical adventure as Reynolds and co-star Cailey Fleming encounter various imaginary friends in the real world, even sharing a dance or two.

The trailer begins with Reynolds cautiously approaching a closet door in a child’s bedroom, accompanied by the words, “What if everything you believed as a kid was real?” The closet door swings open, revealing a furry, purple imaginary friend voiced by Steve Carell, who greets them with a friendly “hi” followed by a comical sneeze.

As the film’s protagonist, played by Fleming, catches a glimpse of her own imaginary friend with a bob cut and large eyes, voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, she faints. The trailer unfolds with Carell’s character explaining, “I’m an IF, get it? Imaginary friend.”

The imaginary friends attempt to interact with people in the real world, including a character portrayed by Bobby Moynihan, who mentions, “Our kids grew up, so we need new ones. You could save all of us,” prompting a call to action from Fleming’s character and Reynolds.

In a delightful twist, actress Fiona Shaw makes a brief appearance dancing alone in an apartment against the backdrop of New York City. However, she’s not the only one with a dance number; Fleming is seen dancing alongside numerous imaginary friends in a black suit and top hat, adding an extra layer of whimsy to the film.

The movie revolves around a girl with superpowers enabling her to “see everyone’s imaginary friends.” Using her unique gift, she endeavours to “reconnect forgotten IFs (imaginary friends) with their kids,” as described in the synopsis.

The film marks a reunion for Steve Carell and John Krasinski after their time together on ‘The Office’. Krasinski expressed his excitement, saying, “Oh my God, ‘The Office’ reunion we’ve all been waiting for is in it. The truth is, Steve’s one of the most talented people on the planet. So whether I had ever worked with him before or not, I would’ve been gunning for him because I just had his voice in my head when I was writing Blue.”

‘IF’ is scheduled to hit theatres on 17th May.
