Ryan Reynolds Says His Kids Are Scared of His Deadpool Suit: “Pretty Well Damaged”

Ryan Reynolds is gearing up for the highly anticipated Marvel movie, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ set to hit cinemas this July. Marvel fans can’t wait to see the witty Canadian mercenary, Deadpool, break the fourth wall again. However, Reynolds’ children don’t seem too thrilled about their dad’s superhero alter ego.

Reynolds, who recently released a live-action animation film called ‘IF’ about imaginary friends, mentioned that while his kids might have imaginary friends, Deadpool isn’t one of them.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Today’ show, Reynolds shared a funny anecdote about his daughter, Betty. “She has such a vivid imagination,” he said. “There’s always somebody standing behind me, and I turn around quickly, like in a horror movie, only to realise it’s just Harvey from the old movie ‘Harvey’—a 6-foot-5 rabbit.”

The show host quipped, “At least it’s not Deadpool. That would be NSFK—Not Safe For Kids.” Reynolds agreed, adding that he’s probably ruined Deadpool for his kids by keeping the original suit at home. He recounted a night when one of his children ventured into the basement, saw the silhouette of the suit, and screamed in terror. “I ran down there and screamed too because I’d forgotten it was there. So, yeah, everyone’s pretty well traumatised,” he joked.

Reynolds’ latest family comedy film, ‘IF,’ was released on 17 May and has received mixed reviews. Directed by John Krasinski, the film features Krasinski, Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, and Liza Colón-Zayas, with voice work by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell. Fans were excited to see Reynolds in a different role, and many have enjoyed the change from his Deadpool persona.

As for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ it’s slated for release on 26 July. The third instalment in the Deadpool franchise is co-written and directed by Shawn Levy. This time, Wade Wilson (Deadpool) teams up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) on a mission assigned by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), pulling him away from his peaceful family life.

This mission is set to have a major impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially changing the way the Multiverse works.
