‘Scary Movie’ Franchise Set for Reboot: Paramount Pictures Announces Comeback

Reports have surfaced indicating that the iconic ‘Scary Movie’ franchise is set to come back with a reboot.

According to a report from Variety, Paramount Pictures revealed the revival of the spoof comedy franchise at CinemaCon. Miramax, a longstanding partner in the series, will also be involved in the reboot. Paramount Pictures is collaborating with Neal H. Moritz, known for his work on the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, to produce the new film.

At CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures confirmed that production for the new ‘Scary Movie’ entry is slated to begin in the fall of this year, with an anticipated release later. However, details regarding the film, such as its title, director, cast and the elements it will spoof, are yet to be announced.

The ‘Scary Movie’ franchise, which debuted in 2000 and concluded in 2013 with ‘Scary Movie 5’ directed by Malcolm D. Lee, has garnered a dedicated fanbase over the years. The first four films starred Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell or Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, while the fifth instalment introduced a new cast led by Ashley Tisdale and Charlie Sheen.

The series is renowned for its spoofing of popular horror films, with titles such as ‘Scream,’ ‘Evil Dead,’ ‘The Ring,’ ‘The Grudge,’ ‘The Exorcist,’ ‘Signs,’ ‘Sinister,’ ‘Saw’ and others being parodied throughout the five films.
