‘School of Rock’: Jack Black is Ready For a Sequel

Jack Black, known for his role as the rock-loving teacher Dewey Finn in the beloved 2003 comedy ‘School of Rock,’ has expressed interest in reprising his role for a sequel if the opportunity arises.

In a recent interview with JOE, the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ star shared his enthusiasm for the idea of a second ‘School of Rock’ movie. “I wish there’d be a ‘School Of Rock 2’ Electric Boogaloo,” Black quipped, referring to the title of a hypothetical sequel to the film ‘Breakin’. “I’m ready,” he added.

Black emphasised the importance of having the original film’s writer, Mike White, on board for the sequel. White, who portrayed Dewey’s roommate Ned Schneebly in the film, is known for his work on the hit HBO series ‘The White Lotus.’ “You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius,” Black stated. “And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with [The] ‘White Lotus,’ the best show on TV.”

While a sequel to ‘School of Rock’ has not been confirmed, the original film has seen various adaptations and spin-offs over the years. In 2015, a stage musical adaptation of the film premiered on Broadway and London’s West End, garnering over $160 million in revenue before closing in 2019.

Additionally, Nickelodeon developed a television series based on the film, which ran for three seasons from 2016 to 2018. The show featured a new cast and storyline inspired by the original film’s premise.

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of ‘School of Rock,’ prompting Black to express interest in organising a reunion. However, with his commitment to ‘The White Lotus’ series and other projects, it remains uncertain if a sequel to the beloved comedy will come to fruition anytime soon.
