‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Series: Everything You Need to Know
Netflix is preparing for the launch of a new live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series. Greg Berlanti will serve as executive producer for the show, with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg handling the writing duties. While Netflix, Warner Bros Television, and Berlanti Productions have not officially confirmed the deal, sources suggest that the project has been in the works for several months.
Described as an adult-oriented take on the classic Scooby-Doo, the series will blend live-action with CGI elements and incorporate supernatural elements into the storyline. The characters, including Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne, are expected to be portrayed more realistically compared to their traditional animated counterparts.

Appelbaum and Rosenberg will both write and serve as showrunners, while Berlanti Productions will handle executive production as part of their ongoing collaboration with WBTV. It’s unclear whether the series will be produced internally at Warner Bros Television or as part of the partnership established with Netflix two years ago.
This adaptation marks yet another project for the writing duo, known for their work on shows like FX’s ‘High Fidelity’ reboot and Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’. Berlanti Productions, behind hits like Netflix’s ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and CW’s ‘Supergirl’, will bring their expertise to the project.
‘Scooby-Doo’ has a long history of animated adaptations, but this series will only be the second live-action iteration following the original ‘The New Scooby-Doo Movies’. Over the years, the franchise has expanded into movies, comic books, crossovers with Batman and WWE wrestlers, Lego sets, theme park attractions, and even a shared universe with spinoffs like ‘Fred Flintstone And Friends’ and ‘A Pup Named Scooby-Doo’.
Created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969, the animated ‘Scooby-Doo’ series became a cultural phenomenon, airing on CBS and ABC until 1986. Its enduring popularity has led to numerous spinoffs and adaptations, cementing its status as a beloved TV classic.
