Sean Diddy Combs Back to New York on Mayor's Request

Sean Diddy Combs has returned his Key to New York City at the request of Mayor Eric Adams. This follows the surfacing of a 2016 surveillance video showing Combs in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie, as reported by PEOPLE. The footage prompted Mayor Adams to express serious concerns, leading to an internal review by the Key to the City committee, which recommended revoking Combs' key.

Mayor Adams, in a letter to CNN, strongly condemned Combs' actions and expressed solidarity with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. The committee's decision to rescind the key was part of a broader effort to uphold the standards of civic recognition.

Combs, a notable figure in music and business, had been awarded the Key to New York City by Mayor Adams in September 2023. The ceremony, held in Times Square, celebrated the release of Combs' album, 'The Love Album - Off the Grid.' At the time, Mayor Adams praised Combs' contributions to music, business, and philanthropy, playfully referring to him as the "bad boy of entertainment" and highlighting his cultural impact and achievements.

In a now-deleted Instagram video, Combs publicly apologised for his past actions, acknowledging the difficulty of reflecting on the darkest times of his life. "My behaviour on that video is inexcusable," Combs admitted, expressing regret for his actions in the 2016 incident. He also shared that he has been working on personal development through therapy and rehabilitation.

Despite his apology, new allegations of assault have surfaced against Combs, further complicating the situation. In addition to returning the Key to New York City, Combs is facing legal challenges with multiple women bringing forward allegations of sexual assault dating back years. These developments have had significant professional consequences, including Combs' decision to sell his majority stake in Revolt, the media company he founded.

Detavio Samuels, CEO of Revolt, confirmed Combs' decision to leave the company amidst the ongoing cases. The controversy has also led Howard University to rescind Combs' honorary degree and return a substantial donation made by his foundation.
