Fresh from the spotlight at the Coachella music festival last month, Lana Del Rey made a triumphant return to the Met Gala this evening—her first appearance since 2018. And, as expected, the singer graced the event with her signature ethereal and darkly romantic fashion sense: stepping onto the famed Met steps adorned in a custom creation by Alexander McQueen’s Seán McGirr.
Del Rey's striking ensemble paid homage to an archival Alexander McQueen piece from its fall 2006 collection; McGirr aimed to honour the craftsmanship of the atelier in a fresh, modern manner. The result was a corseted dress crafted from silk, double georgette, and tulle—all meticulously embroidered with hammered bronze-bullion hawthorn branches, drawing inspiration from the texture and shape of sculptures by the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti.
To add a touch of drama, McGirr fashioned a bespoke headpiece for Del Rey, using natural hawthorn branches draped with a sheer tulle veil. Completing the ensemble was a bronze metal Drop bag adorned with a clock detail.
