Selena Gomez Says She’s Taking a Break from Social Media AGAIN

Selena Gomez recently declared a temporary hiatus from the social media scene, following the spread of misleading rumours about her supposed gossip with Taylor Swift at the Golden Globe Awards. The online community went into a frenzy, misconstruing the Hulu actress’s interaction as chatter about Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, when, in reality, it was nothing of the sort.

On 9th January, Selena shared a video on her Instagram Stories featuring her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, sharing a heartwarming moment with two children. During the clip, the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star casually mentioned, “I’m off social media for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.” Though she didn’t explicitly connect it to the Golden Globes episode, fans couldn’t help but notice the timing.

During the awards show on 7th January, the ‘Single Soon’ artist was spotted approaching Taylor’s table, whispering something during commercial breaks. Speculation arose about the subject of their conversation, with some amateur lip readers suggesting Selena informed Taylor about Timothée and Kylie refusing to take a photo with her.

Setting the record straight on January 9, the former Disney Channel star addressed the situation on social media, stating, “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone’s business.” Timothée also clarified, assuring that everything was fine between them.

In August 2023, she faced speculations about the meaning behind a lyric in her song ‘Single Soon,’ addressing rumours about her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd.

Managing her social media presence through her team for almost five years, Selena discussed her decision in a 2021 interview. She revealed, “I don’t have it on my phone, so there’s no temptation. I suddenly had to learn how to be with myself. That was annoying because, in the past, I could spend hours looking at other people’s lives.”

She emphasized the importance of receiving information in a more personal manner, away from the constant online noise. After a hiatus, Selena made a comeback to Instagram in January 2023.
