Shawn Levy Teases Secret 'Star Wars' Project

Shawn Levy is keeping a tight lid on his upcoming 'Star Wars' project for Lucasfilm. Currently busy promoting his film 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and marks the first R-rated film in the MCU, Levy has still managed to generate buzz about his next big venture.

In a recent interview, Levy revealed that he will be teaming up with Jonathan Tropper, the writer of 'The Adam Project,' for the new 'Star Wars' film. Levy expressed his relief at no longer having to keep this collaboration a secret. He shared that they have an idea that excites both of them, as well as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. While he remains hopeful, Levy noted that there's always uncertainty about whether a project will come to fruition.

Pressed for more information, Levy was tight-lipped, citing his experience with the secrecy required for 'Stranger Things' and Marvel projects. The first hint about this Star Wars project came from Deadline in November 2022. Industry insider Jeff Sneider suggested that the movie might feature the character of Rey, though nothing has been confirmed.

Jonathan Tropper, who has written for two of Levy’s previous films—'This is Where I Leave You' and 'The Adam Project'—has been hired to pen the script.

Levy, while not revealing specifics, assured fans that his Star Wars project would have a unique tone. He mentioned his conversation with Kathleen Kennedy, who encouraged him to infuse the film with his distinctive style. Kennedy’s main request was that the film be recognisably a "Shawn Levy movie," which has left Levy feeling empowered and eager to bring his vision to the Star Wars universe.
