‘Sinners’ Filmmaker Ryan Coogler Officially Set to Reboot ‘The X-Files’

After the release of his highly regarded film ‘Sinners’, Ryan Coogler has formally announced that his next big project will be a revival of ‘The X-Files’, marking his comeback to television.  Although Coogler is most known for directing iconic movies like ‘Fruitvale Station’, ‘Creed’, and ‘Black Panther’, he has also contributed behind-the-scenes to television shows like Marvel’s ‘What If…’ and the upcoming ‘Ironheart’ series.

In a recent interview with ‘Last Podcast’ on the Left, Coogler talked about his ambitions and disclosed that his top priority right now is the ‘X-Files’ reboot.  When the project was first revealed in early 2023, its focus shifted away from Mulder and Scully, the franchise’s iconic leads.  After speaking with Gillian Anderson, who played Scully in the original series, Coogler now appears receptive to returning to these characters in some capacity.  Even if her homecoming has not yet been confirmed, he is still optimistic.

The cult-classic sci-fi series, which was first introduced in 1993 and focused on two FBI agents looking into paranormal and alien activity, will get a new look with the revival.  Coogler suggested a darker and more dramatic tone for the new series by implying that, if executed well, some of the future episodes may be truly horrifying.

In the meantime, both critics and fans continue to laud his most recent picture, Sinners.  The narrative, which is supported by Michael B. Jordan’s outstanding performance, combines historical details, racial concerns, and supernatural dread.

The film has received praise for its ability to combine genres and its deep symbolism.  One of the most notable scenes is a visually arresting musical sequence that takes place inside the juke joint. Critics have emphasised how Coogler delves into deeper topics, like the historical persecution of Black people in the American South, while utilising the fantasy elements.

In a recent series of interviews, Coogler and his longstanding composer collaborator Ludwig Göransson talked about their process for ‘Sinners,’ emphasising their commitment to making innovative and emotionally stirring movies.
