‘Star Wars’ New Movie ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Directed by Jon Favreau!

The beloved character Baby Yoda is making his way to the big screen, as Jon Favreau takes the director’s chair for a new ‘Star Wars’ movie titled ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu.’ Set to begin production later this year, Favreau, the creator of the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian,’ brings to the movie the charming duo of a helmet-wearing bounty hunter (played by Pedro Pascal) and the endearing alien known as Grogu, or affectionately as Baby Yoda among fans.

While the film’s place in the timeline of the live-action series, currently in its fourth season’s development, remains uncertain, Favreau expressed his excitement about bringing “The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen,” emphasizing his love for storytelling within the rich world crafted by George Lucas.

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ marks the first significant ‘Star Wars’ movie since 2019’s ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,’ which concluded the original nine-chapter saga and achieved a global box office success of $1 billion. Despite announcements of new projects from director Patty Jenkins and ‘Marvel’ producer Kevin Feige, none materialized.

In the interim, ‘Star Wars’ has expanded its presence with additional live-action TV shows in the “Mando”-verse, including ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ ‘Ahsoka’ and the upcoming ‘Skeleton Crew.’

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is positioned as a key feature in Lucasfilm’s future film projects, joining a lineup that includes separate ‘Star Wars’ films directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni.

Although Disney’s release calendar is subject to change, there is an untitled ‘Star Wars’ movie slated for 22nd May 2026, with another film set in a distant galaxy planned for 18th December 2026. A third ‘Star Wars’ adventure is scheduled to open on 17th December 2027, although Disney has not provided specific details about any of these movies.
