Steve Carell on How He Became a Taylor Swift Fan: “I’m Going to Root For That Person”

Steve Carell recently shared his journey to becoming an early supporter of Taylor Swift during an episode of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’ Reflecting on his career’s early days, Carell recalled his first encounter with Swift on MTV’s TRL. Both were just starting out, and he was immediately struck by her presence. “I met her sort of in passing, and I thought, ‘Boy, she seems special.’ Even back then. Very sweet, very nice, just had a really nice first impression,” he said.

It wasn’t until a few years later that Carell truly became a Swiftie. He stumbled upon a video of Swift that wasn’t widely known or viral at the time. The video showed Swift in a hospital, playing an acoustic guitar for a patient. It was a simple, low-key recording without a big crew, something she did quietly and without fanfare. “I thought, ‘That’s so cool.’ Not publicized, leading with her heart. I thought, ‘OK, I’m a fan. I am going to root for that person,’” Carell explained.
